Job Overview

Merjent, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Archaeological Principal Investigator to lead archaeological field investigations and oversee project implementation. The successful candidate will have a strong background in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field, and will be responsible for conducting fieldwork, managing project teams, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial project reviews and develop project plans
  • Lead field investigations, including pedestrian surveys, controlled surface surveys, and hand excavations
  • Maintain accurate field records and paperwork
  • Direct archaeological site documentation and ensure digital recordation of survey data
  • Author reports, agency letters, and other project documents
  • Ensure project safety and adherence to Merjent- and client-directed safety policies
Requirements
  • Graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar leadership capacity
  • Knowledge of state-specific cultural resource guidelines, particularly in North Dakota and surrounding states
  • Experience leading field crews and managing project teams
