The Technical Manager is responsible for leading the plant Quality Control/Assurance, Maintenance, Plant Engineering and Project Estimating. They will also collaborate with Corporate Project Engineering to ensure alignment between groups. They are responsible for drawing maintenance and specification accuracy as well as quoting, routing and Bill of Material activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Control/Assurance
- Develop and implement a quality control/assurance program to ensure products meet established company standards. This includes quality testing, documentation of operational procedures and training.
- Perform spot inspections to ensure product meets all established standards, assembly and packaging requirements.
- Validate the quality and conformity of all finished products including calibration, accuracy of measurements up to inspection for shipping.
- Conduct various product conformance tests and maintain records of all test results.
- Develop and update product specification / packaging manual to support production and develop standards and specifications for new products.
- Investigate, respond and adjust customer feedback regarding quality.
- Maintain up to date Quality System records for Audits performed by listing authorities.
- Work with Technical services department in certifying new or existing products as required and direct or implement the necessary changes for new certifications.
- Train & instruct QC personnel, leadership and employees on proper quality assurance procedures and review instructions and work methods to ensure the work is done in a safe and efficient manner.
- Participate in internal quality audits and maintain list of corrective/preventative action requests.
- Implement and maintain all aspects of ISO 9001.
- Oversee the functions related to maintenance, engineering, and plant projects.
- Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program that will maximize the productivity of the equipment/tooling, including the safety & environmental components.
- Manage the capital budget expenditures for the facility as it relates to maintenance activities.
- Monitor and manage the energy control, live work, hot work and working at heights programs.
- Maintain accurate and up to date reference manuals and materials for all equipment & machinery
- Coordinate the contractor management program with the HSE Specialist
- Monitor & schedule maintenance activities for plant equipment & the building
- Project Management duties such as: communicating with contractors, reviewing current status of project against timelines and cost summaries, in order to provide management with up to date status reports and time of completion.
- Ensure that all aspects of technical support requirements are completed and accurate in order to meet timelines, stay within budget and remain compliant.
- Initiate & maintain the management of change program in coordination with the HSE Coordinator
- Source new process equipment and materials, research benchmarking of new processes for continuous improvement to meet changing needs.
- Update product costs to ensure they remain current with manufacturing methods.
- Train & instruct Estimator / Draftsperson on design and costing standards to ensure product performance, cost accuracy and cost consistency of estimated products.
- Completion of a post-secondary Engineering program.
- Certificate in Lean Six Sigma and/or Quality is an asset.
- 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 3 -5 years' experience in a leadership position.
- Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills.
