Job Summary:

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Highway Technician Assistant I. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing essential support to the transportation team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Haul materials to and from job sites, ensuring timely and efficient completion of tasks.
  • Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader, navigating challenging winter conditions with ease.
  • Utilize a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and employ chemical sprayers to maintain roadways and surrounding areas.
  • Assist with basic surveying activities on construction projects, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Provide traffic control support, ensuring the safety of workers and the general public.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Within 12 months of employment, obtain a Class B commercial driver's license.
  • Complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training, as well as Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.

Working Conditions:

Incumbents in this role will work at highway maintenance facilities, work sites, and district-wide, exposing them to risks associated with large equipment and machines. Extended hours and inclement weather are also expected.

Probationary Period:

This position has a 12-month initial and promotional probationary period, as per KRS regulations.
