Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Launch Vehicle Network Engineer II to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our network engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying one-of-a-kind space launch vehicle flight networks using Ethernet/IP packet-based technology.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in network engineering, with experience in developing and validating network specifications and requirements. You will work closely with our network architect, avionics hardware and software engineers to ensure that our flight networks meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and validate network specifications and requirements
  • Work closely with network architect, avionics hardware and software engineers to ensure network meets performance and reliability standards
  • Verify network systems in Hardware-In-The-Loop (HIL) Laboratory and launch sites against functional and performance requirements
  • Configure and maintain control of all flight networks equipment and settings
  • Lead flight network commissioning activities and keep flight network flight-ready via scheduled checkout and maintenance actions
  • Interface with Blue Origin IT personnel to secure all flight networks traffic using a diverse suite of security tools

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, networking or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of design or advanced network operations and integrations as a practicing network engineer (not IT administrator)
  • In-depth understanding of network Layer 2/3 protocols and applications, such as unicast, Precision Timing Protocol (PTP), VLAN tagging, network traffic QoS, OSPF, etc.
  • In-depth understanding of Active Directory, VMWare, and RHEL
  • Ability to understand and develop various software scripting languages
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team of highly skilled software engineers
  • Travel as needed to support launch operations, maintenance, or new network deployments
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • Extensive experience with multicast, including the ability to troubleshoot PIM, IGMP and MSDP
  • Experience with RF datalink systems
  • Knowledge of formal issue and change tracking systems (JIRA, Trac, SVN, etc.)
  • Understanding of fault tolerant, fail-operational network designs
  • Proficient in both Windows and Linux
  • Background in one or more of the following: Satellite/Telecommunications, Aviation/Aerospace, Mission/Ground Control Centers, Operational Environments, and/or Safety Critical Networks
