Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Inspector to join our team at the City of Reno. As an Electrical Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with electrical codes, regulations, and ordinances, and ensuring the safety of buildings and structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site inspections of existing buildings and new construction to ensure compliance with electrical codes and regulations.
  • Examine plans and specifications of new construction, additions, and alterations to residential and commercial buildings to determine compliance with electrical codes and regulations.
  • Investigate complaints and conduct inspections of existing buildings to determine if hazardous or illegal conditions exist relating to electrical components and their use.
  • Prepare written reports, issue notices to correct code violations, and testify in court regarding violations.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within the area of assignment.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in electrical trades, code enforcement, or a related field.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible electrical inspection experience.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Electrical Inspector certificate.
Working Environment

The Electrical Inspector will work in a field setting with travel from site to site and exposure to an outdoor field environment and all types of weather and temperature conditions. The position requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and to perform various physical tasks.
