About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and bilingual individual to join our Foreclosure Prevention Team at the Community Economic Defense Project in Colorado Springs. As a Bilingual Certified Housing Counselor, you will play a crucial role in launching our new Pre-purchase Counseling Service, providing individual pre-purchase counseling and homebuyer education workshops to the Colorado Springs area, and assisting clients with foreclosure prevention, eviction prevention, and homeless counseling services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct client intake interviews for housing counseling and mortgage assistance
  • Provide housing counseling to individual households, including budgeting, credit analysis, and community resource referrals
  • Review 10-15 client mortgage assistance applications per week
  • Develop and implement processes to meet program service goals
  • Research housing needs for communities in El Paso and surrounding counties to inform housing counseling services
  • Create and host homebuyer education workshops in the community, both online and in-person
  • Ensure outreach efforts promote diversity, equity, and inclusivity
  • Provide live training to team members on pre-purchase and homebuyer education content
  • Document caseload progress in our client management system

Requirements:

  • HUD-Approved Housing Counselor certification preferred, with certification within 60 days of employment start date if not currently certified
  • Minimum one to three years of experience in mortgages, foreclosure prevention, advocacy, customer service, and/or social service environments
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Ability to apply prior experience to improve processes and collaboration in a startup environment
  • Analytical thinker with detail orientation, self-starter with problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with Client Management Systems or similar tracking and organizing technologies
  • Fantastic organizational skills and ability to self-manage and prioritize a complex workload
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while managing high-volume caseloads
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Google Suite
  • A home office setup with a private, quiet space for confidential telephone and video-conference sessions
  • Ability to work hybrid in our Colorado Springs office

Additional Details:

  • Candidates must reside in Colorado, ideally within the Colorado Springs area
  • This is a hybrid position requiring attendance in our Colorado Springs office
  • A competitive salary of $65,000 for those with a valid HUD-Approved Housing Counselor certification
  • Employees who utilize two languages or more at work are eligible for a $2,000 salary differential per year
  • Hybrid employees receive a salary differential of $1,000 per year
  • All employees receive a technology stipend of $720 per year
