Job Summary

The Assistant Business Manager is a key role in the management of large-scale interdisciplinary research proposals, grants, and contracts at the Center for Biostatistics and Health Data Science (CBHDS). This position is responsible for providing financial support to the management team, coordinating proposal development and submission, and serving as a liaison with pre- and post-award staff in the Office of Sponsored Programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate proposal development and submission, ensuring high-quality, complete, and compliant proposals.
  • Manage the Center's funds, including educational and general funding, salary savings, and award fund allocation.
  • Monitor award spending to ensure charges are allowable, allocable, and reasonable.
  • Provide financial analysis and budget forecasting to support the Center's operations.
  • Coordinate with pre- and post-award staff in the Office of Sponsored Programs to facilitate award management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, science, or related field, or equivalent level of training and/or experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities, including the ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and apply Virginia Tech policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification.
  • Experience with proposal submissions and federal funding agency policies and procedures.
  • Experience with management tools such as Summit, Banner, and other Virginia Tech financial systems.

This is a restricted appointment, and the salary is commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
