Homeless Services Liaison

The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) in New York City is dedicated to preventing and addressing homelessness. We are seeking a Community Assistant to join our team.
This role offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals and families. As a Community Assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining agency and regulatory standards for health and sanitation, performing general housekeeping duties, and providing client services.
You will work closely with other staff members to ensure that services are delivered 24/7 to the City's most vulnerable population. This includes cleaning restrooms, dorms, laundry rooms, common areas, outside perimeters, office space, and other work areas. You will also remove and dispose of litter and garbage, distribute toiletries and linen, load and unload deliveries, stock supplies, and maintain inventory records.
Additionally, you will transport household supplies, equipment, and client lockers, distribute client mail, remove and store client belongings, organize serving areas, and participate in food service. You may also assist in monitoring client program activities, monitor client crowd control, and perform other job-related duties as required.
This position requires minimal qualifications: no formal education or experience requirements, but the ability to understand and carry out simple instructions is essential. Candidates must also be able to understand and be understood in English.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, certain City Employees may also be eligible to reside in nearby counties.
We offer competitive pay and benefits, including a salary range of $38,000 - $45,000 annually, depending on experience. Public Service Loan Forgiveness and federal loan forgiveness programs may also be available.
