The Surgical - Heart Failure: ICU step-down unit specializes in heart failure management requiring LVAD, heart transplantation, and medical management of heart failure conditions. Our team provides ventilator support, invasive monitoring, inotrope/vasopressor titration, and advanced renal replacement therapies.

We pride ourselves on our high acuity patient volume, which allows for low nurse-patient ratios, promoting safety and satisfaction for patients, families, and staff.

In addition, our interdisciplinary team provides patients with the latest evidence-based practice and most advanced technology.

Job Summary

As a Heart Failure Nurse Specialist at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, you will be responsible for providing direct patient care activities, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Your primary duties will include:

  • Promoting patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educating patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication.
  • Participating in professional development.
  • Developing, implementing, and documenting individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family, or caregiver.
  • Proactively planning and ensuring communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Using critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assessing patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Nursing Diploma/Associate's degree in Nursing.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • A valid RN license.

Compensation and Benefits

Barnes-Jewish Hospital offers a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $100,000 per year, based on experience.
