The University of Alaska System is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as an Outdoor Adventures and Climbing Wall Program staff member. With a focus on delivering exceptional customer service, this role will be responsible for leading outdoor recreation activities, managing program operations, and contributing to the overall success of our programs.

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about outdoor recreation and education. As an Outdoor Programs Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, promoting teamwork, leadership, and inclusivity.

Responsibilities
  • To lead and assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of outdoor recreation programs and activities, ensuring excellent customer service and high-quality experiences for participants.
  • To maintain accurate records, reports, and databases related to program participation, safety incidents, and equipment management.
  • To provide instruction and guidance to students and staff on outdoor recreation skills, risk management, and emergency response procedures.
  • To collaborate with other department staff to develop and implement program policies, procedures, and marketing strategies.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience working in outdoor recreation, youth development, or education-related fields, preferably with a focus on leadership, programming, and community engagement.
  • A valid First Aid/CPR certification and willingness to obtain additional certifications (e.g., Wilderness First Responder, Swiftwater Rescue) as required by the position.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and traverse uneven terrain safely.
  • A strong understanding of risk management principles, including assessment, mitigation, and emergency response protocols.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities.
