Operating Room Circulator

Job Summary:
The George Washington University Hospital is seeking a skilled Operating Room Circulator to join our team in the Cardiac Surgery department. As an Operating Room Circulator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical procedures, particularly in open-heart surgery.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize expertise in open-heart surgery to assist the surgical team by managing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment, and anticipating the needs of the surgeon and surgical team.
- Maintain strict adherence to sterile techniques and infection control protocols, consistently monitor patient vital signs and responses to treatment, and intervene promptly in case of any complications or emergencies.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure seamless coordination and optimal patient outcomes.
- Coordinate with Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team to facilitate the smooth transition of patients from the operating room to the ICU following cardiac surgery.
- Provide thorough handoff communication to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
- Assist with patient positioning, draping, and preparation for surgery, as well as with wound closure and post-operative procedures as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all pertinent information related to patient care, surgical procedures, and medication administration.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, quality of care, and operational efficiency within the cardiac surgery department.
Requirements:
- Valid RN license in the state of practice.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience circulating in open-heart surgery.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and focused during high-pressure situations.
