Job Description

This per diem/PRN Surgical Technologist role involves assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with daily patient care, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation. You will also be responsible for measuring and documenting patient data, such as blood pressures, temperatures, pulse rates, and intake/output. Additionally, you will participate in admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring proper room setup, orientation, and management of patient belongings.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist RNs with daily patient care tasks, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation.
  • Measure and document patient data, such as blood pressures, temperatures, pulse rates, and intake/output.
  • Participate in admission, transfer, and discharge processes, ensuring proper room setup, orientation, and management of patient belongings.
  • Perform purposeful rounding under direction of RN, promptly communicating observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family to RN.
  • Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens, and perform point-of-care testing as indicated.

Requirements:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 45 days.
  • Nurse Aide certification in good standing, registered with the State Registry in which the team member practices.
  • Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.

Working Conditions

This role requires working in a fast-paced environment, often with multiple priorities and deadlines. You must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lifting up to 20 lbs over the head, carrying up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance, pushing/pulling with 30 lbs of force, and performing a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
