Central Sterile Technician

Ortho Rhode Island is seeking a highly skilled Central Sterile Technician to join our team. As a key member of our surgical support team, you will be responsible for maintaining instruments and equipment in an optimal fashion and preparing instrumentation, equipment, and sterile supplies for the surgical patient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Comply with HIPAA and OSHA regulations
- Assist with patient care needs in an emergency and under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse
- Meet patients and family's learning needs as identified in the plan of care under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse
- Function as an Instrument Processing Technician under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse
- Clean and/or disinfect instruments and equipment after use and return it to the proper area for storage and/or processing
- Understand and use sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, instrument washers, and other designated processors
- Clean, wrap, sterilize, and disinfect instruments and equipment and maintain the functions of the instrument processing area/department
- Perform weekly inventory of processing supplies and notify appropriate personnel of order needs
- Assist in room turnover when needed and as assigned
- Check updated schedule every morning and prepare rooms with supplies and equipment as assigned and directed by management
- Attend and participate in all applicable facility training and development workshops scheduled by the facility
- Communicate patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care
- Interact with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional environment
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certification as a Central Sterile Technician
- Any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- Understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfection technologies including industry standardized principles and practice in sterilization and disinfection required
- Prior experience in instrument processing preferred
Work Environment:
Indoors in climate-controlled environment. Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood and body fluids which may carry infection, to infectious disease, and to chemical and electrical hazards. Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.
Physical Demands:
- Good visual acuity, accurate color vision
- Ability to lift and move trays of instruments and patient care equipment, i.e., IV pumps, monitors, up to 25 lbs. which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl
- Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape
- Ability to speak and hear
Travel:
No overnight travel is expected for this position. There may be occasional local day travel to Company Divisions.
