Rare Materials Cataloguer

We are seeking a highly skilled Rare Materials Cataloguer to join our team at the John Carter Brown Library. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating MARC records using various DCRM standards to do excellent, full-level work on library collections, and for creating NACO records and occasional SACO records.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive bibliographic records for rare and early printed materials using DCRM standards.
- Collaborate with library staff to ensure consistency and quality in cataloging and digitization efforts.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in cataloging and metadata standards, and apply this knowledge to improve cataloging practices.
- Work with Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Excel to manage and analyze data.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of European and Latin American history, as well as knowledge of online database searching, technical processing, bibliographic utilities, library physical processing and preservation, and careful handling of rare materials.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and patrons to resolve complex bibliographic problems and provide excellent customer service.
- MLS degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five years' experience using various DCRM standards and OCLC Connexion to create records for printed monographs, broadsides, and serials; demonstrated understanding of LC PCC Policy Statements, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and MARC 21 bibliographic formats or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Fluency or demonstrated proficiency in the Spanish and Portuguese languages.
- Working knowledge of Latin, and other European languages and / or indigenous Latin American languages.
- Knowledge of European and Latin American history, preferred.
- Strong English language communication skills.
- Knowledge of enumerative bibliographical sources and research techniques, including knowledge of major reference sources covering rare and early printed materials.
- NACO independence and experience developing SACO proposals, desirable.
- Considerable knowledge of online database searching, technical processing, bibliographic utilities, library physical processing and preservation, and careful handling of rare materials.
- Preferred experience using the Exlibris integrated library system (ILS) for Alma and Primo.
- Ability to work with Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Excel.
- Understanding of policies and practices within the special collections library world.
- Ability to resolve complex bibliographic problems and effectively communicate results with colleagues and / or patrons.
- Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
