Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to join our team at HNTB. As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing assigned projects throughout their full lifecycle, including developing the scope and technical sections of proposal and procurement documents, participating in contract negotiations, and overseeing the delivery of the project plan to successfully accomplish HNTB's 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget, and to the client's satisfaction on every project.

The ideal candidate will have excellent technical knowledge and quality work in multidisciplinary projects, including the ability to consider the impact of design decisions on the cost and construction of transportation infrastructure. Experience in winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4 for 4 on multi-disciplined projects is also essential.

As a Project Manager at HNTB, you will be responsible for managing project teams for one or more projects with engineering fees up to $1M or may lead and/or work as a discipline lead on a project management team with engineering fees between $1M and $5M.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop the project scope and fee quotation and assist in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
  • Serve as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client's satisfaction.
  • Assist with client project scoping and contract negotiations.
  • Perform technical discipline tasks, including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
  • Implement the firm's project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.
  • Lead the development and execution of the project management plan. Supervise and mentor team to overall project objectives.
  • Perform coordination with managers on project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention, and succession of project staff; development of plan for project staff reporting; and support for performance and compensation reviews.
  • Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA).
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience.
  • 2 years task management or Deputy PM experience.
  • Excellent technical knowledge and quality work in multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience in winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4 for 4 on multi-disciplined projects.
  • Identifying and escalating risk and change management issues, with oversight from more experienced staff.
  • Leading a multidisciplinary project team and subconsultants.
  • Using system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver smaller projects or task orders.
  • Leveraging the Office Management Team to assist in implementing HNTB Sophisticated processes as applicable to the project.
  • Interfacing with client-level peers.
  • Providing technical guidance to team and task leads as well as performing portions of the technical work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Local municipal and/or Michigan DOT experience and relationships.
  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • 10 years relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Michigan or PE Licensed in another state with the ability to become licensed in Michigan within 6 months.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working on transportation projects.
  • Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) hydraulic design experience.
  • Experience using MicroStation and Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Experience using HY-8, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS.
  • Desire to mentor other design staff.
