Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing detailed paraprofessional support duties related to the examination of tax returns and/or the investigation of alleged tax fraud performed by Internal Revenue Agents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the examination of tax returns and/or the investigation of alleged tax fraud.
  • Provide support to Revenue Agents in the preparation of examination reports and the computation of tax liability.
  • Conduct research and analysis of taxpayer information using automated systems and other resources.
  • Communicate with customers orally and in writing to document and summarize information obtained from various third parties.
  • Prepare and assemble work papers, schedules, and exhibits to reflect the presentation of facts and the analysis performed.
Requirements
  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service.
  • Experience using automated systems to research a taxpayer and provide a written report of findings.
  • Experience recognizing indications of tax fraud and abuse.
  • Experience communicating with customers orally and in writing in a variety of situations to document and summarize information obtained from various third parties.
  • Experience using spreadsheets to assist in interpreting data and preparing reports.
Working Conditions

This position is located in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
