Job Summary

As a Phlebotomist at Huntsville Memorial Hospital, you will play a vital role in the laboratory team by collecting, receiving, and distributing specimens. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture, finger, and heel sticks.
  2. Perform departmental tasks such as restocking, taking temperatures, and centrifuging specimens.
  3. Utilize the appropriate patient identification process to ensure accurate specimen collection.
  4. Label all tubes and containers with required elements in the presence of the patient.
  5. Organize workload to collect all specimens, transport to the laboratory, and receive and distribute specimens in a timely manner.
  6. Collect chain of custody drug screens per established procedure.
  7. Enter test orders and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Some college credits in biology or chemistry preferred.
  • One year of hospital laboratory experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of a Phlebotomy certification program with national registry preferred.
Working Conditions

Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and reaching. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and squatting. Visual and hearing acuity required; color vision required for perceiving colors of solutions.
