Nurse Manager Job Description

This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) at the VA Togus location. The Nurse Manager will oversee the daily operations of the program, ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain 24/7 nursing responsibility of the RRTP, including patient care, safety, staffing, environment of care, unit activities, patient, and staff satisfaction.
  • Provide leadership in the application of the nursing process to patient care, organizational processes, and systems, and improve outcomes at the program or service level.
  • Facilitate an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and other team members.
  • Promote a Just Culture environment in building a climate for effective performance while allocating available resources to promote safe, efficient, effective, and quality nursing/patient care.
  • Responsible for writing policies, standards of care, and standards of practice for the Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program.
  • Assure compliance with all regulatory agencies and standards of practice and implementation of required actions to meet Performance Measures.
  • Ensure clinical and administrative unit goals through the timely facilitation of vertical and horizontal communications.
  • Is an active member of the clinical management team, ensuring quality through measurable outcomes and clinical excellence.
  • Maintains knowledge of current techniques, trends, and professional issues.
Work Schedule:

Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm. May need to work various tours of duty to observe nursing staff clinical skills, educate, participate in staff competencies, communicate vital information to staff, review performance measures/goals, and serve as a liaison.

Qualifications:
  • English Language Proficiency.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Three (3) years of mental health management experience, Preferred MSN, CARF experience, Rehab experience, and board certification.
