Job Summary

As a Deputy Sheriff with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, you will play a critical role in maintaining law and order in our community. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute and return process orders of the courts of record.
  • Aid and attend the courts as assigned.
  • Take charge of custody of prisoners in the County Jail.
  • Serve, execute, and process legally issued writs.
  • Make initial investigations in response to dispatched calls for service.
  • Review and police high accident locations and give citations to violators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill the requirements placed upon the office of the Sheriff's Department.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or possess a GED.
  • Must be of high moral character.
  • Discharged under honorable conditions from Armed Forces, if applicable.
  • Will be screened for misdemeanor/felony records.
  • Attend and complete a State of Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) approved basic police training academy.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner. The Deputy Sheriff must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
