This travel Medical Surgical nurse opportunity is a great chance to gain enriching experiences and take on new challenges in your career. As a registered nurse, you will be responsible for providing holistic care to post-operative patients who have had various surgical procedures such as orthopedic, bariatric, urologic, or general surgery.

Responsibilities:

  • You will assess patients, establish nursing diagnoses, and plan care according to identified diagnoses and needs.
  • Implement individualized care, including assisting with activities of daily living, medication administration, skin assessment, pain management, and teaching patients and their families about current illness and medical tests.
  • Assisting with activities of daily living, including fall risk management and safe patient handling.
  • Medication administration.
  • Skin assessment/wound care.
  • Pain management.
  • Operation/manipulation of biomedical and other patient care and testing equipment.
  • Teaching patients and their families about current illness, medical tests, medication, general healthcare, illness and disease prevention, and wellness promotion.
  • Providing appropriate assignment, supervision, and direction to unlicensed assistive personnel.
  • Providing interdisciplinary coordination and facilitation of overall care.
  • Documents patient assessments, interventions, care, and teaching in the electronic medical record.

Requirements:

  • You should have recent (within 2 years) acute care hospital experience.
  • Recent post surgical acute care experience with orthopedic (total joint replacement, spinal, trauma, and/or bariatric surgery patients).

About the Facility

The 25-bed post surgical unit has 75% of patients having had a surgical procedure. Ratios are 1:4 on day shift and 1:5 on nights. Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment, their expected to help the team with the flow of the unit, tasks, and discharge paperwork/appointments.

The facility offers comprehensive medical services for people of all ages. General Surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, and Podiatry cases are common in this unit.

Hospital benefit: in-house Nurse Practitioner in Employee Health Department that sees only employees and their dependents.

A competitive salary package is offered based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. The estimated annual salary for this role is $110,000-$140,000 depending on location and experience.
