Heavy Equipment Maintenance Specialist

Cameron County is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining light to heavy road construction equipment, including motor graders, pavers, rollers, chip spreaders, loaders, backhoes, and tractors.
You will assist in maintaining existing roadways, drainage structures, and grounds, and perform routine maintenance and identify needed corrective actions to resolve discrepancies. Additionally, you will answer maintenance questions, maintain repair documents and records, and estimate required materials needed for construction or repair roads and culverts.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain light to heavy road construction equipment

To be successful in this role, you will need a High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by four (4) years of experience performing technical and/or repair work operating light to heavy road construction and equipment. A minimum Texas Class B Commercial driver's license (CDL) with a tank and air brakes endorsement is also required. Hazardous Material Endorsements are preferred.
You will also need to be physically able to exert medium physical effort in medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion at a keyboard or work station.
Working ConditionsThis position is subject to a six (6) month probationary period prior to Civil Service eligibility. You will be required to submit to a drug and alcohol evaluation. You will also be required to work in adverse environmental conditions, including exposure to damp/wet surfaces, duty conditions, fumes and odors, flammable liquids, and high noise levels.
