Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused professional to join our team as a Retirement Benefits Counselor. In this role, you will provide advanced-level retirement counseling to VRS members, educating them on and assisting with navigating Medicare eligibility and supplemental insurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level retirement counseling to VRS members, including complex retirement estimate calculations and information on VRS services.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs to VRS members on retirement benefits and services.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of retirement counseling services.
  • Participate in special outreach events, including benefit fairs, to promote VRS services and engage with members.
  • Provide administrative support to scheduling and managing appointment requests.
  • Support complex retirement estimate processing and perform various other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years experience counseling on benefits, working in Human Resources managing benefits, or in a high-volume customer service position, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Active listening skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex information orally and in writing.
  • Ability to show professionalism, empathy, and confidence.
  • Proficiency in math and complex equations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team solving problems and managing priorities.

Working Conditions

This position works on-site in the VRS Retirement Counseling Center, Monday through Friday, with flexible hours between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.
