Job Description:

The Behavioral Health Access Specialist is a crucial role at Bon Secours Mercy Health, where we are dedicated to continually improving healthcare quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Our hospitals, care sites, and clinicians are recognized for clinical and operational excellence.

As a Behavioral Health Access Specialist, you will be responsible for performing level of care assessments with patients who present to the Emergency Department needing behavioral health assistance. You will work collaboratively with the Emergency Department Physician, Psychiatrists, Primary care physicians, and local community mental health centers to facilitate proper patient referral and disposition from the Emergency Department.

You will provide clinical assessments for the purpose of determining level-of-care needs in an efficient and timely manner. Your responsibilities will include assisting patients, families, and referral sources with implementation of disposition plans, striving for the least restrictive environment within which the patient can achieve resolution of their problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigate case situations, present information to the Physician, Psychiatrist, and/or other members of the health team on patient's biopsychosocial information
  • Provide basic education to the patient/family to help reduce fear and other attitudes obstructing acceptance of psychiatric care and continuation of treatment
  • Serve as a liaison between patient/family and Emergency Department and Physicians
  • Develop and negotiate initial treatment plans with the patient related to the Level of Care needs of patient
  • Assist with bio psychosocial assessments as needed on inpatient units
  • Perform utilization review pre-certifications from the Emergency Department as needed
Requirements:

To be successful as a Behavioral Health Access Specialist, you should have:

  • A 4-year/Bachelors Degree in social services or counseling
  • A current unencumbered license LPC, LPCC, LSW, or LISW
  • Experience in working in a psychiatric setting required
  • Ability to work as part of multidisciplinary team
  • De-Escalation training within 90 days of hire

We offer a competitive salary range of $55,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience.
