We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our team as the Deputy Director of the Office of Tribal Public Health and Relations (OTPHR). About OTPHR

The Office of Tribal Public Health and Relations is a key component of the State of Washington's Department of Health, working closely with 29 sovereign Tribal nations to strengthen critical health systems, enhance services, and support partnerships. Our team is dedicated to improving health outcomes for communities statewide and advancing public health initiatives that prioritize equity, respect, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide vision and direction for OTPHR initiatives, including goal setting, action planning, and overseeing agency-wide activities to strengthen partnerships with Tribal nations.
  • Team Management: Supervise and mentor a diverse team of leaders and specialists, including directing the work of the Tribal Policy Director, Tribal Engagement Director, and Tribal Public Health System Specialist.
  • Operations Management: Manage OTPHR operations, including personnel oversight, budgeting, administrative processes, and resource allocation.
  • Contract Management: Oversee $13.4 million in biennial contracts for Foundational Public Health Services (FPHS), ensuring timely delivery and alignment with Tribal needs.
  • Representation: Represent the agency at key internal and external meetings to advance public health initiatives and articulate the agency's commitments to Tribal public health.
  • Partnerships: Partner with the Executive Director to design and implement strategic improvements in Tribal consultation processes, contracting procedures, and performance reporting.
  • Quality Improvement: Lead quality improvement efforts and apply best practices to optimize OTPHR's impact and ensure organizational excellence.
  • Staff Development: Support training and resource development for staff to deepen their understanding of Tribal public health priorities.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in public administration, health policy, business, management, or comparable area of study.
  • Experience: Two years of management experience, including supervising and mentoring teams, with five years of experience working with tribal governments preferred.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to analyze complex policy issues and develop effective solutions.
