Job Title: Special Procedures Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Special Procedures Technologist to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As a Special Procedures Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our radiology department.

Job Summary:

The Special Procedures Technologist will be responsible for performing diagnostic exams utilizing appropriate imaging equipment, including CT scans. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Verify patient identity and review medical records for appropriateness of exam or procedure.
  • Interview patients to obtain, verify, or update medical history and assess risk factors.
  • Explain procedures to patients, including side effects of pharmaceuticals, risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up instructions.
  • Set up equipment and acquire appropriate images as per script.
  • Review images, make initial observations, document exceptions from established protocols, and communicate data to radiologists.
  • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies as appropriate.
  • Provide physician-prescribed post-care instructions to patients.
  • Participate in process improvement activities within radiology practice, including quality of care, patient flow, reject-repeat analysis, and patient satisfaction.
  • Provide imaging education to residents, student technologists, and new employees.
  • Able to take call/standby as required by the department.
Requirements:
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiology (RT).
  • Required to have or successfully complete American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS) training by end of orientation period.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) within 6 months of hire for employees working in adult settings or Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (PALS) within 1 year of hire for employees working in cardiology settings.
  • One or more years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiology.
