Critical Care Anesthesiologist for VCU Health

About the Position
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality anesthesia care to patients at VCU Health CHOR, as assigned by the Department Chair or delegate. This includes preanesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anesthetic care, postoperative rounds, resuscitation, and intensive care. Additionally, the individual will direct the activities of nurse anesthetists as assigned by the Chair or delegate.
Key Responsibilities
• Clinical Care: Provide excellent clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed by the Department Chair or delegate, including main OR and ambulatory areas. Supervise and direct Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) as appropriate. Direct anesthesia care in other critical care areas of the medical center.
• Teaching and Education: Teach residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists, and others through bedside clinical instruction. Participate in didactic teaching programs and attend conferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required by the Chair.
• Research and Development: Pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interests independently within the guidelines of the Institution and Department. Participate in clinical trials depending on interest and area of specialization.
• Service and Community Engagement: Serve on departmental, School of Medicine, University, or VCU Health System committees as requested by the Chair or determined via individual interest. The Department emphasizes being a good citizen of the institution and fostering community service at all levels.
Requirements and Qualifications
• MD or DO degree
• ABA Board eligible/certified in Anesthesiology and/or certified/eligible for Critical Care Certification
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
• Eligible for employment in the United States
• Good communication, clinical, and teaching skills
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Salary Information
The estimated salary range for this position is $250,000 - $350,000 annually, based on relevant experience and qualifications. Compensation packages may also include benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
