Job Summary

The Recreation Therapist - Integrative Modalities Specialist is a critical member of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation team at the Loma Linda VA Healthcare System. This position requires a highly skilled and compassionate professional to provide treatment interventions incorporating the four-step process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient treatment services.

About the Role

This role involves providing intensive case management services using Recreation Therapy interventions and services for patients. The Recreation Therapist will work closely with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient.

Responsibilities

The Recreation Therapist will be responsible for:
  • Providing treatment interventions incorporating the four-step process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient treatment services.
  • Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Providing routine documentation of patient participation, progress, and response to treatment.
  • Participating in the overall patient treatment program, including the therapeutic process for a goal-focused program.


Requirements

To be successful in this role, the Recreation Therapist must have:
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in therapeutic recreation or a related field.
  • Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
  • At least two years of experience in recreation therapy, including one year equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-11).
  • Additional certification in a specialty treatment area in recreation therapy, such as physical medicine and rehabilitation, geriatrics, or developmental disabilities.
