Job Summary


The Project Engineer will provide critical support to the Project Manager and Superintendent in the management and execution of assigned contracts. This role will be responsible for ensuring the successful completion of projects from planning to post-construction phases.


Key Responsibilities



  • Assist with the preparation and attendance of project startup meetings, including project handoff meetings, pre-construction meetings, and meetings with unions.
  • Prepare subcontracts and purchase orders under the supervision of the Project Manager.
  • Distribute project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to stakeholders and maintain their up-to-date versions throughout the project.
  • Assist with the preparation of pre-activity meetings for larger project items.
  • Develop and maintain daily and weekly project schedules, distributing them to relevant parties, including owners, project teams, and company executives.
  • Assist with the development and monthly update of critical path method (CPM) schedules.
  • Support the Superintendent and Foremen with daily tasks, including material procurement, project scheduling, survey/layout, and other activities.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, material suppliers, and vendors to meet project schedule requirements.
  • Coordinate with owners, inspectors, and quality control personnel to schedule testing and inspections of project work.
  • Coordinate with company operations managers, including survey, quality control, structures, concrete, transportation, and other departments, as needed.
  • Prepare and submit requests for information (RFIs) and submittals to the owner or engineer of record.
  • Attend progress/partnering meetings with the owner.
  • Enter subcontract payments and approve supplier/vendor invoices.
  • Assist with project cost management and profitability, as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Perform new-hire orientations, as necessary.
  • Review and approve time cards, entering time if necessary.
  • Assist with project closeout and final completion tasks, including punch lists, final plans, certifications, and change orders.

Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • One year of heavy construction experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve practical problems, keeping stakeholders informed of issues or risks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and teamwork mentality.
  • Desire to learn and grow as an industry professional under the guidance of superiors/peers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exposure to or working knowledge of construction industry-specific software, such as HCSS HeavyJob and/or HeavyBid, Microsoft Project, Primavera, etc.
  • OSHA 10 Hour/OSHA 30 Hour certification.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Valid driver's license to drive for the company.

Working Conditions


The Project Engineer will work from field offices and on construction sites, exposed to various hazards typical of construction environments, including moving equipment, uneven terrain, high noise levels, traffic, chemicals, and weather/temperature extremes. Working nights and weekends may be required, and temporary relocation may be necessary depending on project proximity to headquarters.


Physical Requirements


The employee should be able to occasionally sit, climb, or balance, as the position requires working in an office environment, walking on construction sites, climbing ladders, and stairs. They must frequently lift and/or move up to 25+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
