Job OverviewThe Housing Mental Health Counselor plays a pivotal role in providing essential support to individuals grappling with homelessness, domestic violence, and other housing-related challenges. This position demands a blend of compassion and expertise in mental health counseling.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct customized counseling sessions (individual, parent-child, group) to address mental health issues.
- Employ evidence-based methods for anxiety, depression, and trauma.
- Provide crisis intervention and immediate support.
- Collaborate with housing and clinical teams for holistic client support plans.
- Maintain detailed documentation of client interactions.
- Coordinate with local service providers for client care solutions.
- Ensure service accessibility to YWCA housing program clients.
- Adhere to professional ethics and confidentiality standards.
- Utilize technology efficiently for case management.
Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in social work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field with NY State licensure, 2+ years of relevant experience, and bilingual ability.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in social work with NY State licensure, 2+ years of relevant experience, and strong communication, flexibility, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Maintain a current Licensure or Valid Permit in either Mental Health Counseling or Social Work and complete all necessary continuing education requirements as determined by the New York State Office of Professions.
Physical RequirementsTolerance for high noise levels, ability to lift 25 pounds, frequent bending, sitting, and computer usage, and occasional driving for work-related errands are required.
