Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Skating Coach to join our team at the City of Durango. As a Skating Coach, you will be responsible for planning and leading recreational programs, including sports and activities. This is a great opportunity to work with children and adults alike, promoting a love for skating and a healthy lifestyle.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in pre-season staff orientation/training program.
Organize and lead special activities, enrichment and sports programs, and other recreational activities.
Submit lesson plans and supply requests to the Recreation Supervisor.
Work in cooperation with all staff to create fun, exciting programs for participants of all ages.
Emphasize and model good sportsmanship in sports, games and other activities.
Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
Dress appropriately when on duty. Staff shirts should be worn while on duty to ensure staff members are easily distinguishable.
Requirements
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR, AED and 1st Aid certifications.
Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license (where applicable).
Prefer individuals who have some experience with children in an educational or recreational environment as well as knowledge of the sport or activity they are coaching or leading.
Work Environment
Indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, irregular work hours; may work in or around water and slippery surfaces. Periods of mobility with light and heavy physical activity. Varying periods of sun, heat and cold exposure. Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, reach, carry, grasp and turn objects; ability to climb stairs; and stand, sit and walk for up to 60 minutes at a time; acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others via the phone, at meetings and to greet and assist visitors.
