Travel Nurse First Assistant Opportunity in California

Magnet Medical is seeking a skilled RNFA to join their team as a travel nurse first assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced nurses to work with a reputable healthcare provider and contribute to the success of the surgical team.
About the RoleThe Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) will play a vital role in the perioperative setting, working closely with surgeons and other medical professionals to ensure safe and effective surgery execution. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing direct assistance to surgeons during procedures, handling tissue, suturing, and controlling bleeding.
- Maintaining a sterile field by ensuring proper sterile technique and assisting with the application of drapes, surgical instruments, and sutures.
- Assisting with patient exposure through retraction, suction, and other necessary interventions.
- Closing incisions, performing wound care, and applying dressings as directed by the surgeon.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Conducting preoperative assessments of patients, ensuring all necessary consents and documentation are completed.
- Reviewing patient medical history, lab results, and surgical plans to anticipate needs and prepare for surgery.
- Providing patient education about the surgical process, expected outcomes, and recovery.
The RNFA will collaborate with the surgical team to:
- Monitor patient status, including vital signs, anesthesia levels, and sterile technique.
- Assist in positioning patients appropriately on the operating table to ensure optimal access and safety during surgery.
- Operate and manage surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring all tools are sterile, functional, and readily available.
The RNFA will assist in the immediate postoperative period, monitoring for complications and ensuring patient comfort as they recover from anesthesia. They will also provide wound care instructions, monitor for signs of infection, and assist with patient recovery.
Collaboration and CommunicationThe successful candidate will work closely with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other RNs, to coordinate patient care before, during, and after surgery. They will communicate with patients and families to provide updates on the surgery and postoperative care instructions.
Documentation and Record KeepingThe RNFA will document surgical procedures, patient conditions, and other relevant data accurately in the electronic health record (EHR). They will also ensure proper documentation of surgical counts (instruments, sponges, etc.) and any complications or unexpected events during surgery.
Salary and BenefitsMagnet Medical offers a competitive salary package based on 8 hour shifts and 40 hours per week, with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. The estimated annual salary for this position is $142,060. In addition to a comprehensive compensation package, Magnet Medical provides opportunities for professional growth and development.
