Lead the City of Steamboat Springs Airport Division

Job Summary

As an Airport Manager, you will be responsible for performing managerial, supervisory, operations, planning, construction, maintenance, policy, and regulation enforcement duties for the City-owned Airport and Fixed-Based Operator (FBO). You will work under the general supervision of the Public Works Director and supervise FBO and Airport Operations personnel, community service workers, and temporary employees as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Airport Operations: Plan, direct, coordinate, and administer all functions and activities at the Steamboat Springs Airport/Bob Adams Field on a 24-hour, 365-day basis.
  • Supervise Staff: Hire, train, discipline, and evaluate full-time and part-time staff, including FBO and Airport Operations personnel, community service workers, and temporary employees.
  • Develop Plans: Develop, maintain, and implement short and long-range plans, including security plans, emergency plans, and development plans for the expansion of the Airport to meet present and future needs.
  • Administer Contracts: Negotiate, prepare, and administer vendor lease and fuel agreements, airport tenant leases, and recommend contract/lease negotiations to the Director of Public Works.
  • Communicate Effectively: Communicate official plans, policies, and procedures to staff and the public, and respond to public inquiries.
  • Maintain Airport Facilities: Oversee the maintenance of airport facilities, landscaping, buildings, parking lots, storage areas, fencing, electrical, plumbing, roofs, fueling stations, lighting, signage, security systems, glycol containment systems, and other equipment.
  • Ensure Safety: Conduct safety checks as per operations manual and ensure that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget, exercising good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a Bachelor's degree in Aviation or Airport Management/Administration or a closely related field, and five to seven years of progressive responsibility and experience in airport operations, maintenance, and management.
  • Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of a comprehensive airport program; organization and management practices; modern and complex principles and practices of airport program development and administration; methods, materials, equipment, procedures, and practices utilized in airport maintenance and repair; recent developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding airports; advanced principles and practices of budget preparations and administration; principles and practices of supervision, training, and performance evaluation; organizational and management practices; pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations; modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment; occupational hazards and standard safety practices; airport certification manual; airport security program; airport minimum standards; airport rules and regulations; FAA advisory circulars; airport self-inspection program; navigational aids; weather reports; city disaster plans and policies; separation minimums; FAA notices to airmen.
  • Preferred Certifications: Possession of private or commercial pilot's license/certificate or military aviator rating; American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Certification in at least one of the following: Airport Certified Member (C.M.), Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.), Airport Certified Employee Program (ACE), or Airport Safety and Operations Specialist Schools (ASOS); National Air Transportation Association Safety 1st, Fire Safety Training, and Professional Line Service or Supervisor Training certification.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this position is $95,163 - $137,987 annually.
