Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Dental Hygienist to join our team at the Community Action Committee of Pike County. As a key member of our dental team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality oral health care services to our patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the dental needs of patients using approved screening procedures, review medical history, dental charting, and periodontal charting.
  • Provide preventive oral health services, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, periodontal treatment, sealant application, and fluoride application, consistent with accepted professional practices and standards.
  • Document dental services by charting findings, diagnosis, treatment plan, and completed care.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene and post-operative instructions.
  • Maintain minimum productivity standards set forth by employment agreement.
  • Prepare and maintain dental supplies, materials, and instruments, including disinfecting and sterilizing instruments and handpieces according to CDC/clinic policy.
  • Maintain optimal operation of equipment, including handpieces, radiographic equipment, sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, water distiller, amalgam separator, and central evacuation system.
  • Maintain stock of dental supplies, including stocking operatories, reviewing/putting away supply orders, and adding to and submitting supply orders.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) dental hygiene program.
  • Current/Active Dental Hygiene license through the Ohio State Dental Board.
  • Completion of a board-approved course in the administration of local anesthesia and successfully passed the Commission on Dental Competency Assessment (CDCA) Local Anesthesia Examination for Dental Hygienists or the Western Regional Examining Board (WREB) Local Anesthesia Examination.
  • Completion of a course in the administration or monitoring of nitrous oxide-oxygen (N2O-O2) minimal sedation through a permanent sponsor or completed equivalent training within an ADA CODA accredited dental hygiene program.
  • Successful completion of a course approved by the state dental board in the identification and prevention of potential medical emergencies.
  • Current healthcare provider CPR and AED certification through the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented one year and 1,500 hours of experience in the practice of dental hygiene and successful completion of a four-hour board-approved course in the identification and prevention of potential medical emergencies.
  • Successful completion of a board-approved course that prepares dental hygienists to properly and safely practice dental hygiene under the Oral Health Access Supervision Program (OHASP) and holds or is eligible to hold a valid OHASP permit.

Working Conditions:

The position is in a well-lighted, clinic working environment. Position may require occasional travel between VVHC dental clinic (up to 25%). Requires good verbal and written communications. Must be able to speak and read the English language. This position requires the employee to regularly sit, ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. Work is fast-paced, occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
