About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Child Life Specialist to join our team at Duke Health. As a key member of our pediatric care team, you will play a vital role in supporting the emotional and developmental needs of children and adolescents in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess the emotional and medical needs of assigned patients and families to determine the support required during their medical experience.
  • Develop and implement plans of interaction to promote coping skills, emotional health, and optimal development in the hospital setting.
  • Provide play and recreational activities for assigned patients to normalize the environment and facilitate assessments.
  • Prepare children and families for diagnostic, treatment, and surgical procedures to optimize their understanding and coping.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Counseling, Special Education, Recreation Therapy, or a directly related field.
  • One year of experience working with hospitalized children or in an educational training program working with children preferred.
  • Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) certification required.
