The Madison Area YMCA is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our facilities department, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the operations of our facilities, ensuring they are safe and efficient.

Job Summary

">

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience in facility maintenance or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will have above-average knowledge of one of the trades, such as plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, masonry, painting, landscaping, electrical work, or general construction.

Main Responsibilities

">
  • ">
  • Maintain and improve the upkeep of building(s) and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition;">
  • Record and report all needed repairs; repair as directed;">
  • Advise management on maintenance issues and projects as requested;">
  • Perform general facilities maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and plumbing-related issues;">
  • Ensure assigned vehicles (and other equipment) are maintained and operated in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures;">
  • Work with the Director of Facilities Management to evaluate needs for all work requests – both scheduled and unscheduled – as well as any special projects that arise;">
  • Secure the YMCA building and property during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor;">
  • Respond to emergencies affecting the physical plant, such as floods, emergency pool closures, power outages, and major disasters;">
  • Coordinate and follow up on preventative maintenance for refrigeration units, plumbing, electrical, overhead doors, and other mechanical systems;">
  • Coordinate and assist in repairs involving basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems;">
  • Replace soap, paper towels, and other supplies when necessary;">
  • May set up furniture for events;">
  • Responsible for handling urgent facility situations that arise, which may necessitate returning to the facility after regular hours;">
  • Responsible for securing the building at closing of shift;">
  • Operate related motorized and non-motorized equipment;">
  • Paint as needed;">
  • Take care of deliveries;">
  • Assist with property department projects at all Association properties;">
  • Room setups and breakdowns;">
  • Emergency custodial work;">
  • Other duties as assigned;">

Requirements

">

To be successful in this role, you must have:

">
  • ">
  • Three or more years of experience in facility maintenance or a closely related field;">
  • Mechanical and electrical experience required;">
  • Above-average knowledge of one of the trades (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, masonry, painting, landscaping, electrical work, or general construction);">
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents;">
  • Ability to report and record maintenance requests;">
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, painting, and equipment;">
  • BASIC understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment;">
  • NJ Driver's license with a clean driving record;">
  • Black Seal License within 1 year of employment;">
  • CPO certification required within 6 months of employment;">
  • Experience with routine repairs, including plumbing and electrical work;">
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use;">

Physical Demands

This role requires:

  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties;">
  • Ability to work over 40-hour weeks with irregular hours;">
  • Overtime hours must be approved prior to working;">
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet;">
  • Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms;">
  • Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed;">
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust;">
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance to facilities or equipment, which may involve but not be limited to semi-reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces, underground, overhead, and at ground level;">
  • Ability to withstand a wide range of outside temperatures – heat, cold, wind, rain;">
