Fabrication Specialist

This is a role that involves preparing, cutting, shaping, and welding metal using hand tools and equipment such as band saws, material brakes, and material shears. The individual will provide fabrication support for shop services teams.
To succeed in this position, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Main Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering blueprints accurately
- Measure meticulously and plan well to reduce waste
- Mark cutting and bending lines correctly
- Set up metalwork machinery, including rollers, drill presses, flame cutters, brakes, and shears efficiently
- Fabricate and construct metal components as per specifications
- Grind and finish completed products to high standards
- Perform quality checks on completed products thoroughly
- Weld Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Metal Inert Gas (MIG), silver solder, and operate a spot welding machine safely
- Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs promptly
- Operate lathes, surface grinders, drill presses effectively
- Lead daily shop organization and clean-up efforts
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) or Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating power brakes, shears, and bench machines
- The ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as proportions, percentages, area, circumferences, and volume, and apply concepts of basic mathematics
- A certificate in Welding Technology or a related field is preferred
- American Welding Society (AWS) Certification is highly valued
- Accurate interpretation of work orders and collaboration with co-workers and QA associates
- Ability to work within the parameters of an estimate and work order
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal work instructions, read and interpret technical documents
- Basic computer skills for reviewing and performing shop orders
