Job Description:

Position Overview:

The Substance Abuse Treatment Medical Director oversees the medical treatment of clients with substance use disorders through assessment, medication management, treatment planning, and monitoring and support of care. Ensure continuity of program services in an ethical, legal, and moral manner within a safe and therapeutic environment, consistent with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure clients receive appropriate medical care while integrating evidence-based practices to optimize patient outcomes and promote overall well-being.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of clients seeking treatment for substance use disorders, including assessing medical history, substance use history, and current health status to determine appropriate treatment plans.
  • Presume and manage medication-assisted treatments for substance use disorders, monitor patient response, and adjust treatment as needed for effective therapeutic outcomes.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, considering their specific needs and goals. Incorporate pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and medication logs.
  • Ensure medical treatment and practices comply with all relevant regulations, guidelines, and best practices.

Requirements:

  • MD, DO or NP with demonstrated experience in General Adult Psychiatry and/or Family/Internal Medicine and addictions treatment or a related field.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Adult Psychiatry and/or Family/Internal Medicine, American Board of Addiction (ABAM) Certification, or will achieve American Board of Preventative Medicine (ABPM) certification within 18 months.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in admission and discharge, assessment, treatment planning, bio psychosocial management, and aftercare planning.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in applying the current versions of the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) and the ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) Patient Placement Criteria.
  • Proven ability and preferably experience in actively participating in and leading multidisciplinary teams focused on promoting recovery.
