About the Role

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks an experienced and charismatic professional to serve as the Director of Development for the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. As a key member of the university's senior leadership team, this individual will play a crucial role in growing and managing an integrated, high-performance development team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and manage a portfolio of principal and major gift prospects to solicit capital, endowed, and current use support.
  2. Develop a comprehensive annual operating plan for fundraising, including goals, objectives, strategies, tasking, and metrics for measuring performance.
  3. Execute the annual fundraising plan, incorporating effective and thoughtful use of travel, professional communication, and stewardship of donors.
  4. Strategically leverage the Dean's engagement with donors and prospects to enhance awareness, maximize reach, and optimize stewardship.
  5. Lead and mentor a team of highly motivated gift officers regarding best practices in prospect management and fundraising.
  6. Build constructive working relationships with faculty, staff, alumni, and other Batten School and University stakeholders.
  7. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the University and pursue a team approach to fundraising.
  8. Work closely with the Batten School Foundation Board as the staff liaison to the Philanthropy Committee and with other volunteers and alumni to develop and implement fundraising strategies.

Requirements

  1. Proven track record of managing portfolios containing donor prospects of $100,000+.
  2. Success taking a creative and entrepreneurial approach to identifying and cultivating prospects.
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage and develop fundraising strategies in collaboration with University leadership.
  4. Ability to engage donors in the Dean's vision for the Batten School.
  5. A clear thinker with exemplary writing skills that has the ability to effectively articulate the Batten School's and University's educational missions, strategic aims, and programs.
  6. Ability to meet and exceed stretch fundraising goals for a team.
  7. Experience managing staff; ability to balance managing staff and portfolio.
  8. A Bachelor's degree.
  9. Min. of 8 years of professional experience; at least 5 years of previous fundraising experience preferred.
  10. Ability to travel and work nights and weekends as needed.
