At SMBC, we are seeking a highly skilled Loan Documentation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our commercial lending operations, you will be responsible for performing operational processing and support to commercial lending, focused on monitoring and servicing commercial and business loan transactions.

The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of the loan origination cycle and lending process, as well as the ability to understand and interpret credit reports and evaluate loan applications. Additionally, you will have a working knowledge of applicable compliance regulations and regulatory standards for financial institutions/credit unions.

Responsibilities will include reviewing, preparing, and finalizing loan documents ahead of the disbursement of funds, verifying that documentation and work processes are complete and conform to policy, collecting and reconciling invoices, and performing quality control reviews post-closing and facilitating loan funding.

As a Loan Documentation Specialist, you will also be responsible for providing operational support and assistance with onboarding and servicing commercial loan accounts, processing loan payments and payoffs, verifying loan documentation and records, processing non-performing loans and charge-offs, and scanning/storing loan information and related documents.

Furthermore, you will be responsible for processing loan extensions, renewals, and other changes onto core system(s), performing onboarding tasks, and assisting with loan booking onto core system(s) and related audits. You will also investigate payment issues, research and resolve any reconciliation items, and escalate suspicious transactions and issues appropriately.

Additionally, you will prepare and review reporting, as needed, including internal workflow reporting as well as any required reporting for credit bureau/credit disputes.

As a key member of our team, you will liaise with and assist processing teams within lending operations to schedule loan closings, assist with contacting insurance companies and third parties as required to obtain documentation and information, and assist with fielding loan servicing calls and emails and making courtesy calls to loan customers, as required.
