About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team at WellSpan Health Services. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services.
Job Summary
The Phlebotomy Specialist is responsible for performing phlebotomy duties, including venipunctures and processing specimens, as well as clerical tasks such as supply maintenance, patient registrations, and data entry.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform phlebotomy duties to include performing venipunctures and processing specimens, assuring proper specimen handling.
- Responsible for performing clerical duties, including supply maintenance, patient short registrations, and data entry as necessary.
- Performs EKGs (Summit Health).
- Performs vital signs as needed.
- Receives, reviews, performs, and processes requisitions, specimens, and other duties as assigned.
- Communicates with nursing regarding status of patient assignments such as patient not available, hard stick, etc.
- Assesses workload and performs in a manner which facilitates swift and continual movement of clients through the assigned work area.
- Reviews physician orders for tests. Is able to order lab tests with minimal errors and arranges work to outpatient's established time frames and special requests.
- Supplies patients with the correct specimen containers and appropriate instructions.
Requirements
To be successful as a Phlebotomy Specialist, you should possess excellent communication and customer service skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, as well as completion of an accredited medical assistant program and/or graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program or the equivalent in relative experience. Proficiency in phlebotomy and EKG is preferred, as is computer literacy and typing skills.
Salary and Benefits
The estimated salary for this role is $40,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience. WellSpan Health Services offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
