Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the MD Anderson Center. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy operations, ensuring the safe and efficient preparation of sterile products, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sterile Compounding/Preparation
    • Accurately and efficiently prepare non-hazardous sterile products
    • Understand and utilize gravimetric workflow process
    • Utilize IV preparation software
    • Follow all regulatory guidelines for handwashing and garbing
    • Maintain aseptic technique according to Pharmacy Sterile Product Compounding Standards
    • Ability to work independently
  • Inventory Management
    • Monitor area inventory and supplies, and replenish as needed
    • Notify appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages noted
    • Ensure medication security and accountability at all times
    • Monitor for and check expired products and document waste appropriately
    • Utilize basic inventory systems (e.g. Pyxis and Pharmogistics)
    • Accurately and efficiently pull drugs to refill controlled access cabinets and anesthesia stations
    • Complete cycle counts in carousel
    • Order, receive, repack, fill, and deliver floor stock orders
    • Follow all regulatory guidelines to access patient procedure areas
    • Follow proper procedure to relocate controlled access cabinets
    • Promptly respond to and investigate temperature excursion alerts (i.e. Aeroscout)
    • Follow loan and borrow workflow
  • Area Maintenance
    • Maintain clean and organized work area at all times
    • Ensure anteroom, sterile compounding rooms, and drug storage areas are properly cleaned and stocked
    • Complete assigned QA tasks
    • Properly handle hazardous drug spills
    • Understand and follow downtime procedures
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Education: Technical School
  • Certification: Current Pharmacy Technician Registration or Pharmacist Intern License with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
  • Preferred Certification: ACPE Sterile Products Certification
  • Experience: None
  • Preferred Experience: IV sterile preparation experience and prior pharmacy experience
  • Onsite Presence: Is Required

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
