Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced Inpatient Medical Coding Specialist to join our team in Hampton, VA. This role involves working closely with our healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices that meet industry standards. As an Inpatient Medical Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for reviewing and updating patient records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and staying up-to-date with the latest coding guidelines and regulations. You will work collaboratively with our team to improve data quality and support performance improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • * Assign accurate ICD-CM, HCPCS, and CPT codes for patient encounters
    * Monitor and stay current with regulatory and policy changes affecting coded information
    * Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices
    * Stay up-to-date with the latest coding guidelines and regulations
    * Participate in performance improvement initiatives to optimize data quality and accuracy


Requirements:
  • * Minimum five years of medical coding and/or auditing experience in multiple specialties
    * Strong understanding of MS-DRG assignment
    * Proficiency in utilizing military healthcare computers to access patient records
    * Degree in Health Information Management or a related field
    * Relevant coursework or completion of a coding certification preparation course
    * Certification such as RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CCS, or CIC is highly desirable


What We Offer: We offer a competitive salary of approximately $65,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on experience. Additional benefits include 10 days paid time off per year, 7 sick days per year, and 10 paid Federal holidays. A Health & Welfare allowance covers health insurance, long and short-term disability, and life insurance costs. Other benefits include dental and vision plans as well as a 401(k) retirement plan.
