Job Overview
Serve as a Substance Abuse Technician at Bernalillo County, working with individuals struggling with addiction. Provide comprehensive detoxification and treatment services to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Obtain relevant information about clients through interview, assessment and case history; assist and support clients through addiction detoxification and recovery.
  2. Work in conjunction with other department staff to administer scheduled program curriculum and other activities utilized for treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse.
  3. Gather and research data utilized to track the reliability and validity of treatment that has been provided; make recommendations regarding modification of services and service delivery.
  4. Process new clients, i.e., issuance of clothing, orientation to the rules of facilities and assist clients with daily activities, events and informational literature.
  5. Will provide education to individuals and groups in the community and facilitate group presentations and workshops.
  6. Transport clients to appointments and other service locations outside of assigned program.
  7. Maintain progress notes and document behavioral incidents through observation of clients and maintain confidential records.
  8. Participate in reviews of job performance and adhere to recommended measures for change.

Benefits and Requirements

The successful candidate will receive an estimated salary of $22.10 - $30.33 based on location and experience. A high school diploma and two years of work experience involving substance abuse, healthcare, law enforcement, emergency management, or corrections are required. Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is preferred.


Working Conditions and Equipment
  • Essential job duties are performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
  • Primary work surface is even, dry, carpeted or tiled floor.
  • Works alone primarily, with or without directions. Works with groups and with a select team at times.
  • Telephone, typewriter, calculator, computer, fax machine, and copy machine are used in performance of essential job duties.
  • Variety of forms of paperwork are handled in performance of essential job duties.
