Job Opportunity

The experimental nuclear physics group at Virginia Tech invites applications for a postdoctoral/research associate position. The successful candidate will work with the EXCLAIM collaboration, including scientists from various universities, to develop new techniques with AI/ML for novel studies of the nucleon's multidimensional partonic structure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with theorists of the collaboration on event generators and analysis techniques, fits, databases, and impact studies.
  • Contribute to the development of experiments at Jefferson Lab aiming at accessing new information on Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) from novel hard exclusive reactions.
  • Collaborate with students and other postdocs on research projects.
  • Develop and maintain software and databases for data analysis and simulation.

Requirements

  • PhD in Experimental or Theoretical Particle Physics, Experimental Nuclear Physics, Hadronic Physics, or a closely related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Linux environment and coding in C/C++/Fortran or a similar language.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data analysis and/or running experimental simulations.
  • Knowledge of phenomenology or modeling of GPDs or other structure functions.
  • Experience with AI/ML computing techniques.
