Phlebotomy Specialist

At Palmetto Primary Care Physicians, we are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team of healthcare professionals.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of phlebotomy procedures and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned, including checking schedules and organizing patient flow.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams.
- Collect patient history, perform screenings per provider guidelines, and assist physicians/nurses with various procedures.
- Chart patient information and relay instructions to patients/families.
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information.
Clerical Responsibilities:
- Send/receive patient medical records, obtain lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
- Complete forms/requisitions as needed, schedule appointments, and verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
- Manage and update charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately.
Environmental Responsibilities:
- Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocols.
- Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
- Order, sort, and store supplies, and restock exam/procedure rooms.
Organizational Responsibilities:
- Respect and promote patient rights.
- Respond appropriately to emergency codes.
- Share problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
The successful candidate will be able to prepare equipment to efficiently collect blood products, perform venipuncture, arterial and capillary punctures on patients as directed by provider, and conduct laboratory tests on specimens.
Additionally, the candidate will be able to enter data into computer systems, assist donors before, during, and after donation, instruct on urine collection procedures, clean/sterilize equipment, instruments, and work area, and inventory supplies and place orders to ensure adequate supplies for procedures.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from an accredited medical vocational institution with phlebotomy course diploma.
- Minimum one year of phlebotomy experience.
- Medical practice experience helpful.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASCP certification.
- Certification as medical assistant preferred but not required.
- National certification through American Medical Technologists as a registered phlebotomy technician not required but helpful.
- Current CPR certificate preferred.
