Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Technician to join our team in Michigan. The successful candidate will have a strong background in natural resource conservation and enhancement, and the ability to work in a team environment.

The Environmental Technician will be responsible for conducting ecological restoration design and implementation, heavy equipment operation, background environmental data reviews, environmental construction monitoring, native vegetation management, and GPS data collection and mapping support.

The ideal candidate will have a university degree in an environmental or engineering discipline, with demonstrated experience in the Midwest region. Strong technical writing skills and the ability to work well in a team atmosphere are essential.

This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week. Stantec will provide training and support for job performance, and travel expenses will be covered.

The successful candidate will be required to work in Michigan and various locations throughout the Midwest, with future opportunities to work with other Stantec staff around the United States.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting project task management
  • Ecological restoration design and implementation
  • Heavy equipment operation
  • Background environmental data reviews
  • Environmental construction monitoring
  • Native vegetation management and invasive species removal
  • GPS data collection and mapping support
  • Permitting support
  • Project safety plan development
  • Recording, entering, organizing, managing, and analyzing data
  • Assisting with preparation of written reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, and maps for client and regulatory agency review
Qualifications
  • University degree in an environmental or engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in the Midwest region
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to work well in a team atmosphere
  • Strong note-taking skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working well in a team atmosphere and independently as required
  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE), including client-specific training (as required)
  • Working knowledge of field sampling techniques
  • Willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work
  • Conscientious, organized, and disciplined nature
  • Ability to build productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team and Business Center
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license required
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong background in ecological restoration design and construction implementation including both terrestrial and water resources
  • Education and Experience
  • University degree in an environmental or engineering discipline with demonstrated experience in the Midwest region
  • 3 to 5 years of experience
  • Familiarity with computers and iPad GPS units or other similar GPS based survey equipment
  • Strong technical writing skills
