Medical Assistant

As a Medical Assistant in our Rheumatology department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our team of healthcare professionals. Your primary responsibilities will include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in accordance with established nursing care standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Accurately document all findings and instructions.
• Assist physicians to ensure timely and efficient patient flow.
• Sterilize equipment and set up supplies for medical examinations and procedures.
• Screen and process patient phone calls relating to clinical matters for effective patient care.
• Ensure appropriate follow-up on all test results.
• Administer injections and medications; perform routine lab tests such as urinalysis, pregnancy tests, and wet preps; perform tests and procedures such as EKGs, lab tests, and phlebotomy as required.
• Call prescriptions to the pharmacy as ordered by physicians.
• Ensure processing of physician orders.
• Carry out additional duties assigned by physicians, within the guidelines of medical assistant certification.
• Greet and escort patients to exam rooms; prepare for physician visits by obtaining initial information and vital signs; discuss and record chief health concerns; assist with exams, tests, and special procedures as directed.
• Prepare patient charts for office appointments; order and file results of tests, procedures, and dictation in charts; ensure all charts are complete; request previous records and information from the appropriate source; review and maintain current patient information in charts.
• Prepare patients appropriately for examinations or treatments.
• Inspect exam rooms for cleanliness and equipment condition; maintain sample medication closets; stock and maintain rooms and nurses' stations with adequate supplies.
• Schedule consultations and tests; pre-certify patients for insurance coverage; set up referral contacts; review all requisitions (lab and x-rays) for completeness.
• Monitor and record sample drugs and narcotics.
Requirements
• Certificate or Associate's Degree in Medical Assistant Program or equivalent experience.
• Previous physician office experience preferred.
• BLS certification required.
• Pennsylvania state police criminal record check, child abuse history clearance, and FBI criminal history check required.
