About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Pathologist Support Specialist to join our team in Newark, Delaware. As a key member of our pathology department, you will play a vital role in supporting our pathologists in providing accurate and timely diagnoses for our patients.

Job Description
  • Perform surgical grossing work at Christiana Care Network sites based on volume requirements and at the direction of laboratory scheduling created by the Lead Pathologists' Assistant.
  • Responds to Pathologists' Assistant team priorities based on patient/specimen needs and acts accordingly.
  • Performs necessary diagnostic testing and directs appropriate requests of ancillary studies, within scope of practice and credentials.
  • Uses the electronic medical record (EMR) for gathering appropriate clinical information to optimize specimen handling and testing.
  • Assures appropriate specimen accessioning, set-up, triage, and verification of unique patient identifiers.
  • Performs macroscopic description and dissection of all surgical specimens to include current CAP guidelines and prepare tissue for histologic processing.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
  • Certified, or eligible for certification, by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
  • Member of the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants (AAPA).
  • Continuing Medical Education: 60 credits every 3 years to include 1 credit each for safety and medical ethics.

Estimated Salary

The estimated salary for this role is $55,000 - $75,000 per year, based on location and industry standards.
