Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Counselor II to join our team at the YMCA of South Florida. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care and support to children in our licensed child care/day camp facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and implement activities for a group of children, ensuring a safe and engaging environment that meets the needs of each child.
  • Conduct and maintain measurable tools to track children's progress, identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies to enhance their development.
  • Distribute nutritious snacks and maintain a clean and safe environment, adhering to universal health and sanitation practices.
  • Maintain coordination with facility personnel to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the program.
  • Document behavior issues and incidents daily, as needed, and conduct health checks on each child to identify any potential health concerns.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to parents, children, and colleagues, maintaining a high level of professional courtesy at all times.
  • Stay up-to-date with emergency procedures and protocols, ensuring the safety of children and staff in the event of an emergency.
  • Preserve the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials, reporting re-order needs to the Site Supervisor as required.
  • Conduct regular inspections of areas used by the program to ensure cleanliness and safety, checking bathrooms for supplies and basic cleanliness before allowing participants to enter.
  • Document all necessary administrative forms as directed by the Site Supervisor and/or Program Manager.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training opportunities, staying informed about best practices and new developments in the field.
  • Assist the Site Supervisor in any other appropriate ways as directed, supporting the overall success of the program.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum two years' experience, including one year of direct contact with children with special needs.
  • Ability to relate to children and communicate effectively with parents, staff, and colleagues.
  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.
  • Must have a demonstrated competency in the planning and implementation of recreational and educational activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certificates in child growth and development, health, safety, and nutrition, and child care facility state and local rules and regulations.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
