Roofing Apprentice

Job Summary:

The Roofing Apprentice will assist with and learn to become proficient in the performance of tasks in the installation and maintenance of commercial roofing systems such as Standing Seam and other types of metal roofing, EPDM, TPO, and PVC on the Blacksburg campus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the installation and maintenance of commercial roofing systems
• Learn and become proficient in the performance of tasks in roofing installation and maintenance
• Work with the Building Trades Shop on carpentry, masonry, and paint projects as assigned

Requirements:

• Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to maneuver materials up and down stairs and climb ladders and scaffolds
• Ability to work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling
• Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team
• Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures
• Valid Driver's License or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle daily

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a large commercial or educational setting
• Good working knowledge of industrial roofing
• Experience with TPO roofing systems
